If you are ready to overcome your addiction then understanding the options for addiction treatment is important to choose the right treatment that suits you best. One option available is an intensive outpatient program or IOP.
Not many are not already in the rehab industry or have gone to an IOP before knowing of this option.
Learn more about IOP below.
What is an Intensive Outpatient Program or IOP?
An intensive outpatient program is a type of outpatient rehab program where you do not live full-time in a rehab facility, but you get more support than in a traditional outpatient program.
IOP programs are the most intensive type of outpatient treatment available. You will get all of the same addiction treatment that you get in an inpatient rehab in an IOP program. Literally, the only difference is you sleep outside the facility at home, or wherever you normally sleep. IOP programs are more intensive than PHP or partial hospitalization programs.
What are IOP treatment and rehab like?
There are many different types of therapy and support you will receive during IOP treatment. You will receive one on one therapy sessions where you will try to uncover the root of your addiction with a professional specialized therapist as well as find better ways to deal with the triggers that may cause you to relapse.
Group therapy is a big part of IOP treatment. You will share your stories and feeling with others and they will share theirs as well. You will make bonds and develop a support system with others who are going through many of the same things in their recovery.
You will participate in activities meant to give you better outlets, healthier habits, and avenues for relieving anxiety. These activities are usually recreational in nature and show you better ways of bringing joy into your life naturally.
Is an Intensive Program right for me?
An IOP may or may not be right for you. The key factor that will determine this is your home life and support system. If you have a good home life and a good support system it may be a good plan. If you have stress, an unstable home life, or a poor support system then it may not be. The most difficult part is for a short time you will have access to your normal avenues to get your drug of choice. This temptation during rehab before you have developed to tools you need to deal with addiction can be dangerous for relapses.
If you are in need of the flexibility of living at home, then it may be the best outpatient option available. It will be difficult to hide going through withdrawals and dealing with cravings when you are at home around family. That is a point to consider.
