What is Sober Living and do I need it?
Sober Living is an option for those needing more time in recovery and structure once they have left rehab. Sober living homes are a type of halfway house where you stay with others recovering from addiction, and still, receive some structure from treatment professionals and continue to work on recovery and transitioning back into the real world.
Sober living homes can be good for those that do not have a stable home life or good support system or have an especially difficult addiction they are recovering from. These halfway houses are designed to support you in recovery as you make the transition into a sober life.
Your stay in a sober living home can vary from a month to much longer stays. It is up to you how long your stay is, some may feel comfortable with a short stay and others may need longer stays in order to make a successful transition to lasting recovery.
When do you move into a sober living home?
Sober living is after the rehab process. Both detox and rehab must be completed successfully first. Usually, sober living follows a long-term rehab. Sober living’s especially effective with difficult addictions, or situations where a patient is struggling and has a difficult home situation or lacks support.
Another option is to live in a sober living home while completing an outpatient rehab program, but that is a very rare situation as most would just take on the inpatient rehab. However, it does happen and can work well.
Will my insurance cover a sober living home and for how long?
Some insurance plans will cover sober living but not all. If you contact us, one of our addiction treatment specialists will be glad to check to see if your insurance covers rehab or sober living. Sometimes you may need broader coverage, or payment plans to afford Sober living. However, sober living can be cheaper than living on your own since you are splitting some bills in a sober living situation. We will work with you to get into sober living if you believe it is right for you.
